Pitchfork Fondue

The steaks are the star at the Annual Pitchfork Fondue Steak Fry which will be held on Friday, September 6, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Hermann Heights Park Shelters.
Choice beef sirloin steak cooked on a pitchfork in a cauldron of hot oil is the showstopper, but it’s the homemade baked beans and locally grown corn on the cob that add to the charm of this traditional style of cowboy cooking. Ice cream treats are for dessert and beverages include water, 1919 Root Beer, as well as other soft drinks. Guests are more than welcome to bring their own wine and beer.
Take-outs will be available. Cost is $20 per person. A $5 hot dog child’s meal will also be available. Tickets may also be purchased online or at HyVee, the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce Office or from a member of the Lind House Board of Directors. Advance tickets are preferred and limited tickets will be available at the door.
Pitchfork fondue is a tradition that originated with the cowboys in the American West. Cowboys had to be out on the range all day and were unable to come in to have a meal. It appears the idea was born to have a pot of oil boiling outside and cowboys could come and cook pieces of meat as they got the opportunity for a break.
Special thanks to our sponsors Hyvee, New Ulm Telecom, Thrivent Financial, AMPI, Lakes Gas in Essig, Dairy Queen, and Arneson Distributing. Proceeds from this event will be used to fund Lind House maintenance projects. Your support is gratefully appreciated.
